IF herstory
A feminist magazine IF was published its first edition on
May 1997 in cooperation of women working in varied area,
such as scholars, journalists, movie commentators,
feminists and etc.
During the preparation of IF, we agreed that the common
voice of women is that "I want to live differently from now".
Thus we set up the concept of IF as 'a magazine expresses
the desire of women, and invented the spirit of IF- "LAUGH!
PLAY! OVERTURN!.
"Laugh! Play! Overturn!" presents the status of IF and the
aim of IF. We do not consider women as consumer as previous
women magazines and do not alienate women as scholarly
magazines. We pursue popularization of feminism through
delivering cheerfully on the problems that women counter
in everyday life. IF is very unique from cover page to last page.
Cover page did not decorated with the pretty woman face
instead a naked body of woman was placed. The contained
articles clearly show the thoughts of writers. We searched
for the woman writers who have little or no chance to publish
their articles in previous newspapers or magazines and with
these women's help, we write new history with the eyes and
voices of women. IF also intends to demolish the boundaries
divide out society; high culture and mass culture; political
problem and private problem; society and individual; man
and women.
We disagree every standard that discriminate through the
boundaries.
IF will continue to be eyes and voices of women who
wants to live freely and justifiably.
